DAY TWO
Today we welcomed professional author and illustrator David LaRochelle to our class. He gave a short presentation about his journey as a writer and highlighted the process one goes through to publish a book. Then, he guided us through his approach to creating the pictures for his stories. Students drew thumbnails for a poem that LaRochelle had written about his sister's room. S
Other highlights from the day included a mini-lesson about the writing process using Freytag's Pyramid as a guide. We outlined our stories, had fun outside, learned about Question the Expert, used our imaginations to "become" our characters (Imagimingle), and spent time engaged in the drafting process.
TODAY'S CONVERSATION STARTER:
Why is BAD, good when it comes to illustrating?
What is Freytag's pyramid? How can it help us develop our stories?
